Wedding Day: The Ceremony

by Chris

Our wedding day went very well. We had a great day! We wanted to have a short ceremony, and we did. It was 30 minutes from start to finish. It was not rushed, however. It was very special and fun for both of us.

I first seated the mothers while Abby's Dad sang. Once they were seated, they lit the family candles, and hugged. Next, the wedding party entered. As usual, the young flowergirls (our nieces) provided a laugh when they ran out of flowers half way up the aisle. When the older of the two ran out, she turned to her younger sister and took some of her petals. She soon ran out also, so they both turned their baskets upside and walked briskly to the front of the church.

Abby entered the sanctuary to "Canon in D." Even though I saw her before the ceremony while we had pictures taken, I could not help to be a little teary-eyed when I first saw Abby come in. She made her way to the front, we joined hands, and our preacher began.

We next exchanged rings and said our "I do"s. While we lit the unity candle and bowed in prayer, my brother played Be Thou My Vision on the sax. A picture slideshow that I finished that morning also showed on the screens at the same time. Next we said our vows (which we wrote and memorized) and were presented as husband and wife.
